Collection and Archive 


Founded by the artist in 1995, The Dorothea Tanning Collection and Archive is dedicated to preserving the artist’s legacy and fostering a broader understanding of her art, writing, and poetry.  It is responsible for the care and exhibition of paintings, sculpture, and works on paper remaining in the artist’s collection, and for an archive comprising comprehensive records of the artist's works and career, correspondence, journals, manuscripts, photographs, and publications.  Located in New York City, it is open to researchers and scholars by appointment.

 

Catalogue Raisonné


The Dorothea Tanning Collection and Archive is currently compiling all records pertaining to the artist’s work for a catalogue raisonné.   Information about each work will include an illustration, title, medium, dimensions, inscriptions, current collection, provenance, exhibition history, references, reproductions, and other relevant notes.   Anyone owning a painting, drawing, collage, print, sculpture, or other work by the artist is invited to contact us.
