This is the third of three similar images in different sizes: Pour Gustave l'adoré (1966), Pour Gustave l'adoré (1974), and Dantedoré II  (1982).  The titles refer to the 19th-century French artist Gustave Doré, who created illustrations for such publications as Dante's Divine Comedy and Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner, among other volumes.
